56V 7.5Ah ARC Lithium battery delivers up to 60 minutes runtime per charge

Check Price

The search for a reliable cordless mower that actually delivers on runtime is long enough that most people give up and keep buying gas. I did not want to do that. After three seasons of maintaining roughly two acres of mown lawn on my 12-acre property, including slopes, a section of dense clover, and ground that stays soft well into May, I spent the better part of last summer putting the EGO POWER+ LM2135SP 21” Self-Propelled Cordless Lawn Mower through its paces. What follows is a direct account of how it performed, what it costs, and whether I think it’s worth your money.

If you’re already browsing our Battery & Cordless Tools section, you know the space has matured considerably. This isn’t 2016 battery tech. The EGO platform in particular has been closing the gap on gas for a while, and the LM2135SP is currently the top of that line.

Quick Verdict

The EGO POWER+ LM2135SP is the best battery-powered self-propelled mower I’ve tested. It’s not perfect, and the price requires some attention, but if you’re mowing a half-acre to two acres and you want to stop dealing with gas, oil changes, carb problems, and fuel storage, this is a well-built machine that earns its cost. The self-propel system alone is worth a significant portion of the premium over push models.

Buy it. With the caveats in the pricing section below.

Key Specs

The LM2135SP runs on EGO’s 56V ARC Lithium platform. The 7.5Ah battery included in the combo kit delivers up to 60 minutes of runtime per charge. Cutting width is 21 inches. Cutting height adjusts across 6 positions, from 1.5 inches to 4 inches. Weight with battery installed is approximately 68 lbs.

The Select Cut multi-blade system handles mulching, side discharge, and bagging, with the bag included. The Touch Drive self-propel system is variable speed, controlled by how hard you press the handle bar. Drive is rear-wheel.

A few numbers worth paying attention to at purchase time. The tool-only version (no battery, no charger) currently runs around $370 on Amazon. The kit with the 7.5Ah battery and rapid charger runs closer to $699. The battery alone, bought separately, lists at around $199 for the 7.5Ah, and the rapid charger adds another $130 or so. Buying them separately costs more than buying the kit. (I mention this because the tool-only price looks attractive until you do that math.)

Performance & Testing

Runtime and Power

On a full charge with the 7.5Ah battery, I consistently got between 48 and 58 minutes of run time mowing actual lawn, not the manufacturer’s ideal conditions. My test area included a stretch of rough fescue that hadn’t been cut in two weeks and a low section that stays damp. The mower didn’t stall or bog down noticeably. Power delivery felt steady through the full discharge cycle, which is not always the case with battery tools that drop performance in the final 20% of charge.

For comparison, I ran a Husqvarna LC221RH for two seasons before this, which gave me a reliable but loud, oil-dependent experience I was ready to leave behind. The EGO is quieter by a meaningful margin, to the point where I don’t wear hearing protection for shorter sessions, though I’d still recommend it for an hour of continuous mowing.

Self-Propel System

The Touch Drive system is the feature I’d highlight first. If you’ve ever tried to push a 68-lb mower up a wet slope with one hand while the bag is filling, the self-propel addresses that directly. Speed responds to bar pressure rather than a fixed switch or trigger, which means you’re not fighting the machine when you slow down to maneuver around an obstacle. It takes about 20 minutes to calibrate to your natural walking pace. After that, it largely disappears.

I did test it on a slope of approximately 15 degrees. Traction was adequate. On wet grass, I’d reduce the drive speed slightly and keep a firm grip. Nothing alarming, but worth noting if your terrain is significantly pitched.

Cutting Quality

The Select Cut multi-blade system uses a lower blade for cutting and an upper blade for processing clippings. Mulch output was finer than I expected. I tested side discharge on the rough fescue section and the distribution was even. Bagging performance was consistent, though the bag fills faster in thick growth than the capacity suggests, which is not an EGO-specific complaint.

Cut quality at 3 inches was clean across Kentucky bluegrass and the clover patches. At 2 inches it struggled slightly in the damp areas, leaving some uncut stems. Most mowers do the same. At 3.5 to 4 inches, which is where I typically run in midsummer when the ground dries and I want to keep moisture in the soil, the results were excellent.

Battery Platform

The 56V EGO platform is worth factoring into the purchase decision. The same battery runs the EGO Pole Hedge Trimmer and integrates with the broader EGO lineup. If you’re building out a cordless equipment setup, not buying fuel for any of it is a real convenience. I currently run four EGO tools off shared batteries and one rapid charger. The ecosystem approach works well in practice, though it does require planning your charging schedule on heavier workdays.

For leaf management alongside the mowing season, I’ve also found a 40V cordless leaf blower useful for cleanup passes after mowing around borders, though EGO’s own blower options are a natural extension if you want to stay on one platform.

Pros and Cons

Pros.

  • 56V 7.5Ah battery delivers real-world runtime of 48 to 58 minutes under varied conditions
  • Touch Drive self-propel is genuinely intuitive and handles slopes without drama
  • Select Cut blade system produces clean mulch with no secondary processing required
  • Quiet enough to use early morning without bothering the neighbors
  • No gas, no oil, no carb issues, no winter storage headaches
  • 56V platform shares batteries across the full EGO tool lineup

Cons.

  • 68 lbs with battery is heavy for tight spaces or narrow gates, worth measuring before you buy
  • Tool-only version looks like a deal until you price the battery and charger separately
  • 21-inch cut width means a half-acre takes real time; this is not a wide-deck machine
  • No weather-resistance rating I could find in the documentation, so I wouldn’t leave it out in the rain
  • The bag volume, at 1.9 bushels, is on the smaller side for heavy grass weeks

I’ll add one more item that won’t appear on a spec sheet. The handle height adjustment is a fixed two-position fold rather than a continuous adjustment. I’m 5’8” and found the high position comfortable. Someone taller might not. (I measured the handle height at the upper position as approximately 40 inches from the ground, if that helps.)

Who It’s For

This mower suits a specific profile, and it’s worth being clear about that rather than pretending it’s for everyone.

If you’re mowing between a half-acre and about two acres, you have 68 lbs that you’re able to manage, and you’re ready to spend $699 for the kit version, the LM2135SP is a well-matched tool. The self-propel makes the weight manageable on flat to moderate terrain. The runtime covers the area without mid-session recharging if you keep the battery maintained and don’t let it run completely flat before charging.

If you’re mowing under a quarter-acre, this is more mower than the job needs. Look at EGO’s push models or a corded option, and save a few hundred dollars.

If you’re managing something closer to what I run, with multiple acres and varied terrain, you may want to look at what EGO has done with the EGO Robot Mower, which covers ground autonomously between charges. That’s a different price category and a different use case, but worth knowing about if acreage is your primary constraint.

And if your property has significant edging and border work to go alongside the mowing, the Stihl battery edger is what I’d pair with this setup. Different brand, different battery system, but the Stihl edges with a precision the EGO multi-tool attachments don’t quite match. You’d be managing two batteries rather than one, which is a real tradeoff, though I appreciate that’s not everyone’s priority.

For a broader view of how cordless outdoor equipment has developed, the Battery & Cordless Tools section covers the category in more depth, including chainsaw and edger options if you’re building out a full setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the EGO LM2135SP battery last on a full charge?

In real-world conditions, expect 45 to 58 minutes with the 7.5Ah battery. The manufacturer quotes up to 60 minutes. That figure is achievable under light conditions. In thick, wet, or long grass, you’ll be closer to 45 to 50 minutes. For most half-acre to one-acre properties, one charge per session is sufficient.

Lawnmaster Electric Lawn Mower

Does the EGO LM2135SP come with a battery and charger?

The kit version includes the 7.5Ah battery and rapid charger and currently runs around $699. The tool-only version lists around $370 but requires you to source the battery and charger separately, which adds $300 or more. Buy the kit unless you already own a 7.5Ah EGO 56V battery from another tool purchase.

How does the EGO LM2135SP compare to a gas mower?

For cutting performance on residential and light estate lawns, it’s comparable to a mid-range self-propelled gas mower. It’s quieter, requires no fuel or oil maintenance, starts reliably every time, and stores cleanly. It does not match a commercial gas mower on sustained heavy-growth performance. For most home properties, the tradeoffs favor the battery mower.

Is the EGO LM2135SP too heavy to push manually?

At 68 lbs with the battery, it’s heavy by cordless mower standards. The self-propel does most of the work on flat to moderately sloped ground. If you have significant slopes, the mower handles them, but you’ll want to assess your grip and footing on wet grass. Pushing it without the self-propel engaged for any distance is not something I’d recommend as a regular practice.

Can I use my existing EGO 56V battery with the LM2135SP?

Yes, the LM2135SP accepts any EGO 56V ARC Lithium battery. Runtime will vary depending on battery capacity. A 5.0Ah battery will give you noticeably shorter run time than the 7.5Ah. For mowing a full half-acre or more, the 7.5Ah is worth having. The 56V platform is consistent across EGO tools, which is one of the more practical aspects of buying into this system.
